The nu monument program is based on the question of the (im)possibility of a contemporary monument. As an institution that engages with art and public space, Stroom critically examines the relationship between developments in contemporary art, society, and the status of public space.

Can contemporary art play a role in creating and maintaining a collective consciousness; in remembering, commemorating, or even glorifying people or events? Can it bring different groups together? Can it truly give meaning to publicness? These and other questions are central to Stroom's nu moment program.
