Program for artists

Besides the program of activities with artists that is offered to a wider audience, Stroom also offers a program specifically aimed to artists. This program consists not only of financial support, studio mediation and the platform hknl, but is a mix of activities in which the three keywords stimulate, deepen and connect come together. We share knowledge, broaden the network, increase visibility and exchange inspiration, in which we enter into collaborations such as with voordekunst, Platform BK and Kunstmuseum.

International visitors' program

For the international visitors program, Stroom invites almost monthly curators, gallery owners, artists and critics from home and abroad to make studio visits to artists from The Hague. The aim is to increase the visibility of artists, offer reflection on their work and stimulate awareness of their work. Registered artists can sign up for this studio visit program by responding to the call that we put out through our own means of communication, such as the socials and the website of Stroom.

Invest Week

An important instrument Stroom uses to stimulate talent is the annual Invest Week. This consists of an inspiring program in which (inter)nationally renowned curators, artists and critics each individually visit a select number of artists. This intensive week offers artists a substantive reflection on their own work and position, and is often a great stimulus and inspiration. To promote reflection on their artistic and professional practice, Stroom invites recipients of the PRO-Invest grant to participate in the Invest Week one year after the award.

The art professionals and participating artists visit various art venues and artists' initiatives in the city. The contacts are not only valuable in terms of content, but also provide artists and curators with an important opportunity to broaden their networks. Repeatedly we learn that as a result of the Invest Week, artists are invited to (inter)national residencies or presentations.

Library sessions

Library sessions are intimate, informal gatherings in which an artist or curator, together with several artists from The Hague, discusses the publications that have been important for the artistic development of the main guest. The opportunity to exchange ideas about each other's vision and practice in a relaxed manner makes the sessions very valuable.

Every year, Stroom organizes a series of introductory meetings and information sessions. We often seek out collaborations, such as with voordekunst and Platform BK.

Stroom Young Talent Award

In 2022 Stroom will launch the Stroom Young Talent Award, a special annual talent development program for four recent KABK graduates. The program focuses on artistic development and on broadening and strengthening the professional practice. The program runs for twelve months, from August through August. The 'young talents' are guided by two artists as mentors, who contribute their years of professional experience and expertise. In personal conversations, customized work plans are realized with which the talents will hopefully make a flying start in their careers.

Ouborg Award

For years Stroom, in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum and the municipality of The Hague, has been hosting the Ouborg Award, the city of The Hague's visual arts award for proven talent. For the new edition in 2024, some changes have been made that make the prize more in line with developments in the field, increasing the diversity of artistic disciplines and backgrounds and improving the accessibility of nominations and selection process. The selection process has been revamped and anyone in the city can nominate an artist from The Hague, from which a jury chooses the laureate. In addition to the solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum, the artist will receive prize money of 25,000 euros, to be used at the artist's discretion for their own artistic practice.
