Location: Stroom Den Haag, Toussaintkade 55, Den Haag
led by Andre Kruysen
Stroom Den Haag and the ArteSwa Foundation, initiator of socio-cultural projects, are organizing a series of workshops in the project space of Stroom on the Toussaintkade.
New Dutch citizens and our high school students form a wide range of ideas about their future in this country. In that future, they will have to relate to one another. Today, immigrants are mainly approached as a problem rather than as an enrichment to our society. Creating a monument for someone who is still in the process of shaping their life in this country is a good starting point for a workshop.
Objective
- To share these different ideas, opinions, etc., in order to foster dialogue and, hopefully, mutual understanding between two groups in society who at first glance may not appear to have much in common.
- To create a physical artwork that will be exhibited, giving this encounter a tangible form that extends beyond the workshop itself.
Working Method
Divided into small groups, participants will create collages from images and text taken from recent national newspapers and magazines. From any given magazine, cliché images, slogans, or idealized representations can be extracted. This process will reveal how many opinions are already shaped for us by the media. The final monument will be based on these collages.
Guidance
The workshops will be led by visual artist André Kruysen, who, in addition to his professional art practice, has extensive experience teaching and organizing workshops for both young people and adults in both art education and mainstream education.
