After Neurath takes as its starting point the life and work of Otto Neurath, who lived in The Hague between 1934 and 1940.
Otto Neurath (1882–1945) was a scientific philosopher, political economist, and sociologist. He was one of the leading figures of the Vienna Circle and a prominent advocate of the Unity of Science movement. All these interests converged in a system that became known in the 1930s as ISOTYPE (International System of Typographic Picture Education)—a visual language that translated numerical data about social developments into easily understandable icons. This system was a precursor to the pictograms we now encounter everywhere, from airports to shopping streets.
