Michiel Voet

The wooden guard house by Michiel Voet in Kijkduin must compete with a snackbar it stands back to back with. Because the tiny building is much lower than the neighbour building it seems to be wearing a kind of high hat, thus emphasizing the theme of surveillance. The horns on the roof make the building look like a three-headed periscope, especially when the large, round mirror inside becomes visible. The ambiance of the wooden structure blends in perfectly well with the temporary architecture of the seaside location. The same goes for the wooden gates in this landscape of sand and dunes.
