Atelier van Lieshout

mobile

The mobile guard unit by Atelier van Lieshout is being used during large-scale events in The Hague like Park Pop, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Pasar Malam and the City-Pier-City Run. Like a mobile home the unit is equipped with wheels and can be attached to a car to be driven to a variety of locations. The full-service unit will be hard to miss with its striking exterior made of polyester in the colours red, white, blue and orange.

Atelier van Lieshout is a collective centered around the Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout. The studio makes functional furniture, (mobile) homes and sculptures of multi-coloured polyester. The members of the collective manifest themselves in the art world as radical designers and contractors and consider their own unique way of life or way of thinking more important than the creation of an autonomous piece of art. Atelier van Lieshout recently moved to a new location within the city limits of Rotterdam. Their aim is the foundation of a self-supporting community to live and work in: AVL Ville, thus creating a special enclave with rules of their own, as opposed to the rules and regulations of the society we live in.
