'06Auke de Vries 'After the Rain/Slow Speed Paradise'
Date: 19 February - 2 April 2006
Exhibition on the occasion of the presentation of the Cultural Award of the city of The Hague 2005 to Auke de Vries. De Vries is well known both in Holland and abroad for his sculptures in public space. The exhibition focuses on a less publicized aspect of his work as an artist, namely his ideas and projects in the field of landscape design and urban development. In Stroom Den Haag De Vries presents his plans for the revival of an area in former East Germany (GDR) eroded by brown coal mining ('Slow Speed Paradise'), as well as a sculpture in Istanbul condemning the architectural gap between the slums and the plazas ('After the Rain').
In concurrence with the exhibition Auke de Vries gave two lectures (in Dutch):
'Schaal (Scale)', February 22, 2006
'Slow Speed Paradise', March 15, 2006
Two publications on Auke de Vries:
- The exhibition is accompanied by a publication on Auke de Vries with texts Fulya Erdemci, Martien de Vletter and Arno van Roosmalen.
- In addition the book 'Photo Archive Auke de Vries' has been published, financed by the prize money of the award.
