Recap: Unveiling of the artwork Be longing by Michael Rakowitz
A new outdoor artwork has been unveiled in Molenvliet Park: Be Longing.
On Saturday, July 5, Mayor Jan van Zanen festively revealed the work by Michael Rakowitz. Together with residents of The Hague, Rijswijk, and Voorburg, he brought stories, fragments, and history to life. The seven art objects are made of ceramic shards, donated by locals, and refer to archaeological finds from the Rotterdamsebaan area.
The title Be Longing carries multiple meanings. Rakowitz, who is of American-Iraqi descent, knows from personal experience the feeling of migration: the longing for one’s homeland and the search for a new sense of belonging.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this special project!
