OPEN CALL: Art residency UmbigoLAB at Casa de Mateus Foundation

UmbigoLAB announces a new Open Call, this time in co-creation with the Casa de Mateus Foundation, to take place at the entity's facilities between 1 and 20 September.

Focusing on the theme of Ecology, and in close dialogue with the territory, the UmbigoLAB @ Fundação da Casa de Mateus artistic residency will be based on the Escola das Transições project and will be integrated into the Arte na Paisagem programme.

This call is aimed at visual artists who wish to develop research and creative work in tune with environmental and human heritage. Applications are expected from artists whose work is already marked by environmental concerns.

UmbigoLAB will consider any artist/artist duo registered on the platform on the date of application submission to be eligible, regardless of age, gender, nationality, place of residence and date of registration on the platform, excluding any artist/artist duo who, although complying with the above, has already participated in another artistic residency developed by UmbigoLAB.

Artists/collectives wishing to apply must submit to UmbigoLAB, by 11/07/2025, an artistic project that takes into account the specific context of this residency, within which they propose to explore the theme of Ecology in dialogue with the territory of Mateus and Vila Real.

The selection of the winning artist/artist duo will be made by a jury set up for this purpose, composed of: Leonor Carrilho, Mariana Pestana and one member from each of the promoting entities: Umbigo Edições/Fundação Millennium bcp and Fundação da Casa de Mateus.
