Artist Michael Rakowitz is working on his new art project, Be Longing. This project focuses on collaboration and co-creation. Rakowitz invites everyone in The Hague to donate ceramics to this project. The concept behind Be Longing is inspired by the idea that migrants bring objects and recipes from their homeland to feel at home in new places. These hybrid objects have inspired Michael's design, celebrating the rich backgrounds of The Hague's residents.
"Be-Longing will be built from the unknown, and often invisible relationships between people here in The Hague, and one of the sculptural forms it will take is mending the broken pieces of pottery that are excavated from the ground by archaeologists. To mend those gaps, more fragments across time and distance are needed. I invite everyone in the city to bring a plate, a teacup, a vase, a bowl or any other ceramic household item you are willing to donate. We will break the ceramics in a celebratory manner, and all the shards will be united in the sculptures for the Molenvlietpark. Thank you so much, I am very grateful for your help."
- Michael Rakowitz
