Vijftig jaar lang, van 1920-1970, maakt graficus Gerd Arntz hout- en linoleumsneden waarin hij de tijd kritisch benaderde. Rond 1930 ontwikkelde hij met Otto Neurath in Wenen en daarna ook in Moskou een grafische vorm voor de beeldstatistiek, waarvan de beeldsymbolen, Isotpypes, de voorlopers waren van de inmiddels internationaal vertrouwde pictogrammen.
