Monuments are not always the massive, towering sculptures or busts, static and eternal, initiated by the government. Memorials are on the move and artists play a role in this. They act as makers of monuments, commissioned or unsolicited. A memorial connects the present with the past, so that we pause and (re)think, and thus becomes part of the collective memory of the nation state, the people or the group. Simulacrum is a magazine for arts and culture that serves as an accessible and high-quality publication platform for students and experts from the field.
