Leaflet accompanying the similar named exhibition at Radius, Delft (Sep.2 - Nov.19, 2023), curated by NiekolaasJohannes Lekkerkerk and Sergi Pera Rusca. With THE PORTAL, Tonn continues her artistic research into the peat swamp. What was once a fascinating place for contact with spirits, ancestors and gods is now an endangered ecosystem that could play a key role in combating ecological decline. THE PORTAL included new video and sound work and ceramic objects. It is a sensory exploration of the peat swamp that reflects on the cultural and ecological entanglements of the ecosystem. In addition, an attempt is made to find out what it means to be human, not only in the distant past and present, but also in speculative versions of the future.
