Architect Henri Jacobs has conducted extensive research into two-dimensionality, focusing on the inherently flat nature and recto-verso proposition of a surface. The collection of works in this book, which takes various forms—such as woven paintings, murals, masonry, tapestries, ceramic objects, and drawings—was created using a variety of techniques. In particular, he regularly experimented with weaving paper, interweaving old and new works—or figurative and geometric images—into a double-sided, two-dimensional surface that is image, pattern, texture, and structure all in one.
