The Artist Placement Group (APG) was conceived by Barbara Steveni in London and founded in 1966 as an artist-led organization that sought to reorient art beyond the gallery, primarily by involving an artist in a corporate or governmental context for a period of time, like the British Steel Corporation and the Ministry of the Environment. The organization also exhibited in galleries and, for example, at Documenta 6. Participants included John Latham, Joseph Beuys, Yoko Ono and Fluxus Group. After 1989 the organization became known as Organization and Imagination (O+I).
