This publication coincides with the exhibition at the Netherlands Architecture Institute, Rotterdam 23.09.2006- 07.01.2007. The artists in this book show us the spectacle of urbanity as a myth. The work of these photographers reveals an almost extraterrestrial beauty of urban liminal spaces and sites in transformation. Over recent years they have provided inspiration for a whole new way of looking at the city. Thanks to their gaze, places that were once considered 'ugly', such as port and industrial zones, have acquired a new visual quality, which now sometimes even serves as inspiration for the design of public spaces and buildings.
