5 jaar Stadscollectie Rotterdam. This book is a report on the interaction between local artists and an internationally-oriented museum of art. From 1996 to 1999, the Rotterdam City Collection invited local artists to create works that critically reflected on the museum in general, and the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in particular. The book contains a catalogue section examining museum acquisitions of the past five years, including works by Joep van Lieshout, Daan van Golden, Robert Zandvliet, and less well-known artists such as Bert Sissingh and Paul van der Eerden, as well as discussion challenging traditional conceptions of the museum.
