Lara Almarcegui’s intervention for the Spanish Pavilion at Venice Biennale revolves around two related projects which continue her reflection on the idea of urbis and the different elements (material, geographical, architectural, geological…) that comprise it. The first part is directly related to the physical space of the Spanish Pavilion in the Giardini. The second part of the project is the development of a research conducted on the island of Sacca San Mattia in the Venetian lagoon, A Guide to Sacca San Mattia, the Abandoned Island of Murano. The artist focused her interest on an artificial island formed by waste deposit of Murano’s glassmaking industry.
