Zefir7: Publishing, Activism & The City

This edition will be centred around themes of publishing, design for activism, and how to relate to the city.
Spookstad is an Amsterdam-based publishing initiative that emerged out of squatting collective Mokum Kraakt. Their aim is to bring the message, aims and practical knowledge of direct emancipatory action to a wider audience. The presentation of this evening will be done by two of their members, Jan Egbers and Lukas Engelhardt. They will speak about starting their publishing practice and how one can design in solidarity with activist movements.

Kenneth Geurts (1996) is an artistic researcher that works through the media of analog film and design. Deconstructing and reconstructing narratives plays a central role in his practice. His recent works have revolved around cityscapes: ‘hetvrijearchief.net’ – an online platform that invites users to create assemblages out of archival material from the 60s-70s Amsterdam squatting scene, and ‘Flows of Capital’ – a 3 channel 16mm film installation, that follows the rise of global capitalism, from 17th century Amsterdam to contemporary New York City, through the Dutch Colonisation of Manhattan. Flows of Capital will premiere at the end of October.
