Ton van Kints

The donkey and the carrot

Date: 21 January - 20 February 1994

A classic exhibition of the wooden wall objects Ton van Kints (1955) had been working on for some time. These were seemingly simple, formal works, featuring elegant line drawings cutting through the wooden material, which was held together in an awkward-looking manner by a staple or a small slat.

“They are images of beautifully executed failures,” as Hans Oerlemans described them in the accompanying information leaflet. “The objects express a tragic duality: the constant attempt, the inevitable failure, and the necessary repair.”
