Theatergarten BestiariumDate: 1 September - 15 October 1994
Schöttle created a landscape made of sugar on tables in which there is an exchange between elements from historic architecture, since reduced to a rudimentary level and ruins, and the images from museums, archives and libraries projected onto it. The longing for a different, ideal world became reality on Schöttle's tables. This first version of the so-called ‘Little Bestiarium' had the effect of being like a picture machine, which provoked the imagination. The idea for ‘Theatergarten Bestiarium' dates from 1987 when Schöttle wrote the text entitled ‘Bestiarium, Theater und Garten der Wildheit, des Kampfes und Glücks'. In his eyes, the Bestiarium is the world where the fight between virtues and vices is fought.
