Rien Monshouwer (1947):
“When I first walked into this space, I was struck by the ‘sense of history’ the place exudes. This ‘sense of history’ became the starting point for the exhibition.
I decided to treat the space as a map of the world, the size of the world itself — a map whose parts have faded, making some cities and houses barely distinguishable. As I worked, this map transformed into one of those cities, a city in which the ‘houses’ slowly became visible again, and history — or rather a history, a context — returned.”
