Ferdi Hortisculpture
Date: 13 April - 31 May 1992
Ferdi’s (1927–1969) daughters, Giotta and Riju Tajiri, curated an exhibition of colorful objects, flowers, and plants made from faux fur and other unusual textile materials created by their mother, who passed away in 1969. The works were on loan from the Arnhem Municipal Museum, the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, the Tajiri family, private collectors, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, where they were last shown in the late 1960s. Thanks in part to the restoration and refreshing of the works by Wies Raanhuis, the exhibition came as a major surprise to those encountering the work for the first time—particularly young artists.
In the autumn of 1992, the exhibition was taken over by the Twents Museum in Enschede.
A publication of the same name accompanied the exhibition, featuring texts by Dick Hillenius, Pietje Tegenbosch, and Mirjam Westen. The booklet Ferdi Hortisculpture (The Hague, 1992), which was selected as one of the 50 Best Designed Books of 1992, was designed by Irma Boom and featured a faux fur cover with a zebra print. A color insert showed the installation at Toussaintkade.
The exhibition was part of the 1992 Floriade in Zoetermeer.
