Els de Groot
DisplacedDate: 10 February - 25 March 1995
In the space on Toussaintkade, Els de Groot (1940) outlined the floor plan of the building where she had her studio—an architectural structure from the New Objectivity period. She filled the wooden outline with yellow sand from the Ardennes, which she had brought back from a journey, as she often did with the materials, impressions, colors, and forms she collected and brought into her studio in The Hague. These elements would, in time, take on meaning within her work as 'displaced' fragments.
