Workshops David Bade: Open Air Fitness Honk

As part of the art commission program for schools, artist David Bade is creating a sculpture for the schoolyard of the Hofstede Praktijkschool in the Escamp district of The Hague South West. Bade frequently works with various groups from a social and community-oriented perspective. In Curaçao, he founded the Instituto Buena Bista and the ArteSwa Foundation, where talented young people are prepared for further education in the creative field. This approach aligns closely with the working method and mentality of the Hofstede Praktijkschool. The new work – Open Air Fitness Honk – is being developed through a series of workshops with students and neighborhood residents, under the direction of David Bade at Gemak (22 March to 30 May, 2010). The project is supervised by Stroom Den Haag and coincides with a major retrospective exhibition of David Bade at GEM – Museum of Contemporary Art in The Hague.

Visitors to Gemak can follow the creation process of the artwork and contribute storylines to an animated film that will continue to evolve throughout the project. The animation will also be viewable via webcam at GEM and on the website of Stroom Den Haag (t.b.c.). The closing event of the art project is scheduled for 30 May, 2010, starting at 15:00 hrs. The artwork itself is expected to be installed after the summer.

In addition to the workshops, Gemak will also highlight other social aspects of David Bade’s work through presentations on the ArteSwa Foundation and the Instituto Buena Bista.

Flashmob Action on 22 April, exactly 15:00 hrs
David Bade invites all his friends and ‘mobbers’ to join a Flashmob action on Thursday 21 April at Gemak/Vrije Academie. Bring a wooden stick and attach an old shoe to it! Everyone is welcome to contribute their object to the artwork being created on-site for the Hofstede Praktijkschool schoolyard.
