Alfred Eikelenboom

Utopian models and paintings

Date: 20 May - 16 July 1994

Eikelenboom presented his last generation of utopian models which he proposes as a formal alternative to current urban architecture. Although they are constructed out of cones, spheres and cylinders and they seem to be the result of mathematical calculations, they are a result of aesthetic considerations and a longing for pure form. Eikelenboom's intuition determines the dimensions and relative proportions. His proposals for architecture never take any building requirements into consideration. In that sense they explore the formal boundary between architecture and sculpture.
