Publication in connection with a presentation and performance by Isolde Venrooy (1977-1925) at Kunsthaus NRW, Aachen, Germany, in 2023. Venrooy invited poet Roy Voragen to contribute to this publication.Central to crumbs is the sponge cake that is also part of Venrooy’s spongy stories. The cake is bright green due to the pandan leaves, often used in Indonesian cuisine, for her and Voragen a familiar kitchen. To Venrooy food was more than merely meant for sustenance; to her, food, eating in communion, was part of who we become.
