The Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center is dedicated to acquiring, studying, disseminating and preserving the history of Babyn Yar- also spelled as Babiy Yar or Baby Yara - , a ravine in Kyiv where in the last days of September 1941, occupying Nazi forces shot 33,771 Jews in what is known today as the 'holocaust by bullets', and where over the following two years nearly 70,000 more people where killed. This book includes a historical overview of these events together with rich, archival imagery collected by the foundation and other organisations in Ukraine and beyond. The various memorials that sit there now are very special to Ukraine and significant landmarks in its capital. In 2022 a Russian missile attack took place very near to the memorial park.
