The artistic work of Sanja Ivekovic (Zagreb 1949) can be characterized as a critical practice involved in the politics of the image and the body, as well as an analysis of constructed identities in the media, applying the strategies of political engagement, solidarity and activism. In the (then) Yugoslav (and therefore Croatian) art world, she was one of the first artists to apply a feminist perspective in her artistic and activist practice. It can be said that the core of Ivekovic's oeuvre focuses on connecting social and political urgencies to the position of women in society, an urgent matter in itself.
