Artist statement: Maurice van Es (Invest)
Once in a while I fully understand how special it is that something like photography exists. You see something, point your camera, press the button and then you have a photograph. While in reality, the moment that you photographed already has been replaced by a new one; the only thing remaining from this moment, is the photograph. I believe we express our human powerlessness with regards to time by taking a photograph. Because we cannot stop time we use photography (unconsciously and consciously) to make our personal history as lifelike as possible.
