Oproep inschrijving atelierbezoek Birta Gudjonsdóttir op 28 en 29 januari 2016

Op donderdag 28 en vrijdag 29 januari a.s. zal Birta Gudjonsdóttir, hoofdcurator bij de National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavik een aantal atelierbezoeken afleggen bij kunstenaars in Den Haag. Haar interesse gaat uit naar: "artists who work with video and/or performance as a medium, in that, I'm in the beginning stages of preparing a project that deals with body politics. I'm interested in artists who work with spirituality and the unknown, in a wide perspective (New Age, Esotericism, Paranormal etc.) and artists who are inspired by folk art/outsider art".

Wij vragen u daarbij om uw interesse voor het bezoek te motiveren IN HET ENGELS (als Word bestand of in een e-mail). De binnengekomen reacties worden samen met suggesties vanuit Stroom aan Birta Gudjonsdóttir voorgelegd. Uit de lijst zal zij een keuze maken op basis waarvan het bezoekprogramma zal worden samengesteld. U ontvangt alleen een bericht wanneer u door de curator bent geselecteerd voor een atelierbezoek.

Beknopte biografie van Birta Gudjonsdóttir
Birta Gudjonsdóttir (1977) is an independent curator and artist living in Reykjavik, Malmö and Berlin. Her practice takes place on several platforms, mainly as a chief curator of the National Gallery of Iceland, also as an independent curator internationally. Birta is involved with several committees.
Birta received her MFA degree of Fine Arts from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and is currently a researcher at the Critical & Pedagogical Program of Malmö Art Academy. In 2009-2011 she was a director of The Living Art Museum in Reykjavik. In 2008-2009 she had the position of artistic director and chief curator at exhibition space 101 Projects, Reykjavik. In 2005-2008 she had the position of chief curator of SAFN Art Collection, Reykjavik. In 2008 she worked as curator's assistant at MuHKA; Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp. In 2013 she participated in the Ships at Sea Nordic curatorial project, organized by Sparwasser HQ, Berlin. In 2007-2008 she participated in the Nordic Baltic Curatorial Platform project, initiated by FRAME (Finnish Fund for Art Exchange). She has curated exhibition projects in Melbourne, New York, St. Petersburg (Russia), Boden, Oslo, Copenhagen and most major art museums and exhibition spaces in Iceland. She has edited three exhibition catalogues and served on advisory boards of the Icelandic Art Center, Museum Council of Iceland, The Icelandic Academy of the Arts and for various commissions and art prizes. She has produced her home-gallery Dwarf Gallery since 2002, is a founding board member of Sequences Art Festival, and a member of IKT, International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art.

Over het atelierbezoekprogramma
Stroom nodigt sinds 2006 regelmatig curatoren, kunstenaars en critici uit binnen- en buitenland uit om atelierbezoeken af te leggen bij Haagse kunstenaars. Het atelierbezoek biedt de kunstenaar de gelegenheid om zich met zijn/ haar werk te presenteren. Het vormt een gelegenheid tot opbouwende kritische reflectie op het werk in een gedachtenwisseling met een gekwalificeerde expert. En in het verlengde hiervan wordt natuurlijk de bekendheid met het werk gestimuleerd.
