Propaganda Art in the 21st century / by Jonas Staal. - Cambridge (Ma) : MIT Press, 2019. - 244 p. : col. and bl/w ills. 21,5 cm
Incl. Notes, Index
ISBN 978-0-26204280-2
How to understand propaganda art in the post-truth era—and how to create a new kind of emancipatory propaganda art. Propaganda art—whether a depiction of joyous workers in the style of socialist realism or a film directed by Steve Bannon—delivers a message. But, as Jonas Staal argues in this illuminating and timely book, propaganda does not merely make a political point; it aims to construct reality itself. Political regimes have shaped our world according to their interests and ideology; today, popular mass movements push back by constructing other worlds with their own propagandas. In Propaganda Art in the 21st Century, Staal offers an essential guide for understanding propaganda art in the post-truth era.

Is there a way to disentangle ourselves from a global order that shapes our politics as well as our imagination? The Italian theorist Franco "Bifo" Berardi tackles this question through a solid yet visionary analysis of the three fundamental concepts of possibility, potency, and power. Overcoming any temptation of giving in to despair or nostalgia, Berardi proposes the notion of futurability as a way to remind us that even within the darkness of our current crisis, still lies dormant the horizon of possibility.

Full Scale False Scale : a reader of sorts /  ed. by Experimental Jetset.- Amsterdam : Roma Publications, 2019. - 280 p. : ills. ; 18 cm
(Notes on Experimental Jetset, Vol. 3)
ISBN: 978-94-92811-67-7
'Full Scale False Scale' focuses on a single project by Experimental Jetset: the large, site-specific installation the studio created for the Museum of Modern Art, New York, commissioned to coincide with the museum's reopening in October 2019 (so four years after their 'Statement and Counter-Statement', 2015). Part reader, part collage, the book forms a subjective archive of research material, just as constructed as the installation itself - an investigation that took them from esoteric colour theories to dark political alliances, and from modernist diagonals to postmodern arches.

Incl. Notes
ISBN: 978-1-78663-244-9
In Duty Free Art, filmmaker and writer Hito Steyerl wonders how we can appreciate, or even make art, in the present age. What can we do when arms manufacturers sponsor museums, and some of the world's most valuable artworks are used as a fictional currency in a global futures market that has nothing to do with the work itself? Can we distinguish between creativity and the digital white noise that bombards our everyday lives? Exploring artefacts as diverse as video games, Wikileaks files, the proliferation of spam, and political actions, she exposes the paradoxes within globalization, political economies, visual culture, and the status of art production.

In 1926 El Lissitzky, one of the most influential Russian constructivists created an unconventional exhibition space in Dresden. His Room for Constructive Art connected the notion that space and the viewer are constitutive elements of an artwork and that the reception of art can be activated through the organization of space. This publikation accompanied the exhibitions ‘Heimo Zobernig, Piet Mondrian :A Spatal Appropriation' and ‘Demonstration Rooms : Interventions by Céline Condorelli, Kapwani Kiwanga, Judy Radul' at the Albertinum, Dresden, March to June 2019. In their installations the artists explored the relationship between art, space, and viewer within the specific context of the architecture, design, and collection of the Albertinum. They drew upon Lissitzky's core ideas and a spatial design by Piet Mondrian, which was created in 1926 for the Dresden residence of art collector Ida Bienert.

The team of curators invites international artists to work in situ in the city. The list of participants reads like a who's who of contemporary artists such as Donald Judd, Rosemarie Trockel, Claes Oldenburg, Katharina Fritsch, Richard Serra, Isa Genzken, and Rirkrit Tiravanija, among many others. The archive of sketches, plans, concepts, models, protocols, essays, professional studies, statements and interviews amassed over the 40 years is a unique resource on the theme of art in public space.

Humankind : Solidarity with Nonhuman People / by Timothy Morton. - Londen ; Brooklyn : Verso, 2019. - 224 p. ; 20 cm
Incl. Notes, Index
ISBN: 9-781-788-731003
What is it that makes humans human?  Morton invites the reader  to consider this philosophical issue as eminently political. Becoming human, he claims, actually means creating a network of kindness and solidarity with nonhuman beings, in the name of a broader understanding of reality that both includes and overcomes the notion of species. Negotiating the politics of humanity is the first crucial step in reclaiming the upper scales of ecological coexistence and resisting corporations like Monsanto and the technophilic billionaires who would rob us of our kinship with people beyond our species.

Wouter Davidts (author of The Fall of the Studio) investigates the connection between architecture, the museum as an institution, the museum program and art. A museum's architecture may be deployed in a variety of ways: as an autonomous icon, as a flexible space, as a PR instrument, as a memory machine, as a stimulus to urban renewal, as a landscape theme, as a political trump card, as a storage depot for artifacts, and so on. Davidts explores these perspectives through several case studies--the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern and US institutions such as The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA Los Angeles and MoMA P.S.1 in New York.
