Informatie in Nederlands: klik hier

On Friday 14 and Saturday 15 October 2022 Katja Mater, artist, filmmaker and teacher will visit the studios of a number of The Hague artists.

About her areas of interest, she says the following:
"My work is often an attempt in dissecting ‘reality' by juxtaposing different moments — or truths — inside a single image. A film camera or a projector are not merely instruments for showing or making films or photographs but also instruments with which you can manipulate and generate meaning. I attempt to create a new space where past, present and future resonate side by side, where time explodes and the meaning of words and signs are no longer fixed."

You can apply until Thursday 29 September 2022

Short biografphy Katja Mater
Katja Mater is a visual artist, filmmaker, editor, organizer and educator who studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and subsequently at the postdoctoral instituut de Ateliers in Amsterdam, with a practice that focuses on the parameters of photography and film as non-transparent media.
By creating hybrids between photography, film, drawing, performance and installation Mater documents something that is often positioned beyond our human ability to see.
Interested in revealing a different or alternative (experience of) reality through capturing the areas where optical media hardly behave like the human eye, by mediating between time, space, perception and our understanding of them, while recording events that simultaneously can and cannot be - holding midway between information and interpretation.
Mater has been exhibited internationally in institutions such as Het Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam NL, Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève CH, De Vleeshal Middelburg NL, Centraal Museum Utrecht NL, Temporary Gallery Cologne DE, AMOA- Arthouse Austin USA Fotogalleriet Oslo NO, Marres, Maastricht NL, Kiosk, Ghent BE en Museum M, Leuven BE.
In November 2020 the self-published book Time is an Arrow, Error came out. Earlier A Study on Colour was published by Heden, Den Haag (2009) and Multiple Densities by ROMA Publications, Amsterdam (2014). Right now Mater is working on a 10" vinyl titled Two (more) Sides of One Thing that will be released with the label Futura Resistenza, Brussels/Rotterdam.

About the studio visiting program
Since 2006, on a regular basis Stroom invites curators, artists and critics from The Netherlands and abroad to visit the studios of artists in The Hague who are registered at Stroom Den Haag. These studio visits offer an opportunity for artists to present their work and receive constructive feedback on their practice. The program also aims to strengthen and broaden the artists' network.
