Archief Stroom Bibliotheeksessies

Olivier Mosset : Works / Arbeiten 1966 - 2003 / by Michel Gauthier, Paul Ivey, Sarah King. - Hardcover - Publisher: 5Continents, 2008. - 144 pages : ills.
ISBN: 978-8874390564
Olivier Mosset has remained committed to questioning painting as a historical object by, somewhat paradoxically, continuing to paint. Through his affiliation with the B.M.P.T., a group of conceptually driven painters formed in Paris in the 1960s, Mosset and his peers—Daniel Buren, Michel Parmentier, and Niele Toroni (their initials reflected in their collective acronym)—sought to democratize art through radical procedures of deskilling. They also deftly deconstructed such modernist shibboleths as the primacy of authorship and the value of originality.

Steven Parrino : Catalogue / Essay by Vincent Pecoil. - Published in 2007 on the occasion of "Steven Parrino" at Gagosian Gallery Madison Avenue (5th Floor), New York. - 111 pages; Fully illustrated
ISBN: 1-932598-54-5
For years, when the artist Steven Parrino wasn't jamming power chords on his electric guitar or tinkering with his motorcycle in his garagelike studio in Brooklyn, he was recycling his unsold paintings: twisting them into eccentric new shapes, smashing their stretcher bars or stabbing them repeatedly with scissors. His destructive approach to art making earned him the admiration of some fellow artists, but it also concealed a painful reality: There was no market for his work. Then, on New Year's Day 2005, Mr. Parrino died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Demand for his art has since increased, and in September 2007 a Parrino retrospective that had toured European museums surfaced at the Gagosian Gallery on Madison Avenue.

Katharina Grosse : Cool Puppen / Marion Ackerman, Beate Ermacora, Roland Waspe. - Publisher: Edition Minerva and Ikon Gallery, 1999. - 172 pages : ills.
ISBN-13: 978-3932353642
This catalogue, including installation shots, illustrates Grosse's rejection of the traditional canvas as a foundation for her colourful, abstract paintings in favour of architectural form. The artist combines different varieties of paint and methods of application to cover the wall's surfaces with intense colour. The context of architecture is crucial for Grosse, particularly for an understanding of her most recent work. Painted or sprayed directly onto walls it constitutes an acknowledgement of the formal qualities of its most immediate environment. It also embodies the traces of the artist's movements within the space in the process of painting. Architecture, informed by an architect's understanding of human behaviour, thus provides a cue for the artist's response. At once rigorous and informal, the finished work is compelling graffiti, beautiful evidence that 'she was here'.

Wade Guyton :Black Paintings / artist's book. - JRP|Ringier, Zurich, 2010.
Published on occasion of three exhibitions by Wade Guyton at Friedrich Petzel Gallery in New York, Paris, and Frankfurt.
In a sense, this book is a reflection on the questions of reproduction, the original, the source, and re-formation at the heart of Guyton's practice. If it could be said that Guyton's minimalistic "paintings," which connect directly to abstraction's history, conjure a restructuring of Modernist art and décor.

Paul Lee : Stills / Published by An Art Service, New York, 2010. - 98 pages : ills.
Paul Lee's vocabulary possesses a quiet force. His unspoken narratives investigate the meaning and conquest of desire, using a language that is on the verge of absence - a mark via the form of a trace, a trace that wipes away any particular subjective resonance, appointing it in another form.
