Part of The Sculpture Gallery

For Maria Roosen (1957) the biggest obstacle in making a contribution for The Sculpture Gallery was the obligatory pedestal. She asked a very legitimate question: which sculptor still uses the classical pedestal after the world-famous Brancusi (1876-1957) made the pedestal an integral part of his sculptures in the early 20th century? Her solution: a stand made of birch logs. This serves as the pedestal for a huge jug. The shiny, polished jug contrasts with the rough birch logs. Together they illustrate the contrast between nature and culture.
