Center of The Hague: Spui - Grote Markstraat - Kalvermarkt

Part of The Sculpture Gallery

A dented shape, a wooden ball without gravity, thin black bars with an arrow, and last but not least a hefty pedestal: these are the components Auke de Vries (1937) used to make this sculpture. In spite of the recognizable elements this is a completely abstract sculpture. De Vries is not interested in the meaning of the recognizable components. For him the sculpture is about the beauty of the shapes and the tension they create in combination with the abstract figures. It is a sophisticated and intuitive play with space.
