Mandela Monument: 'Long Walk to Freedom'

Johan de Wittlaan, The Hague (near Omniversum)

On 25 September 2012 Archbishop Desmond Tutu inaugurated this 3,5 meter tall statue for Nelson Mandela, near the Omniversum in The Hague. The Long Walk to Freedom Monument is a work by Arie Schippers. Stroom Den Haag advised in the selection of the artist and acted as a supervisor up and until the sketch phase.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."
