Screening of the documentary The Congo Tribunal at the Movies that Matter Festival followed by a Q&A with Eva-Maria Bertschy (IIPM) and Jean-Louis Gilissen, the chairman of The Congo Tribunal who also works at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Swiss theatre director Milo Rau stages a fictitious court to
search for truth and justice in the deadly conflict in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo. Involving actual protagonists, it becomes clear
that the country is trapped in a complex web of exploitation, corruption
and violence that is very hard to escape.
Eva-Maria Bertschy is an author and researcher specializing in European documentary and social-realist theatre and a collaborator of Milo Rau and his IIPM in a variety of projects.
Jean-Louis Gilissen is the chairman of The Congo Tribunal and is an international criminal law expert. He works at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
