Ondertussen: LUST

10 December 2013 - 23 February 2014
Location: Hogewal 1-9, The Hague
Open: Monday to Friday: 11-17 hrs; Saturday and Sunday: 12-17 hrs

In 2008 the multidisciplinary graphic design practice LUST from The Hague created a new work for the permanent installation 100 Years of Graphic Design in the Netherlands at MOTI, Museum of the Image in Breda: the Poster Wall for the 21st Century. Six hundred unique posters are automatically generated daily using content gathered from various internet sources. The posters are projected onto a wall and react to movements in space. When a visitor enters the space or approaches the wall itself, the posters become bigger and a new image is generated.

In 2012 LUST was invited to present the Poster Wall as part of the travelling exhibition Graphic Design: Now in Production in the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City and The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles (USA). LUST used this opportunity to develop a new, more interactive version of the wall. The 2.0 Poster Wall offers new possibilities, like Tweets, QR-codes and social media sharing.

In the Ondertussen space LUST will show the ‘dashboard' of the Poster Wall. In the space a Kinect-sensor registers the positions and movements of the visitors and translates them into a visual representation that is projected onto the Ondertussen wall. The visitors can see the registrations of their own movements. In turn the registrations are used by the Poster Wall to generate new images / posters. Large 32" screens show the posters that were created for the Poster Wall. The other screens show a video registration of the Poster Wall in action and examples of tweets and the posters they generated.

In 2012 LUST received a PRO Art Projects subsidy for the further development of the Poster Wall and for their participation in the exhibitions at the Walker Art Center, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and The Hammer Museum.

Ondertussen
The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (the Dutch word for 'meanwhile').
