The following text is by Lisa van Casand herself.

"It is easy to think that the way we experience the world through our senses is the only true one. The light our eyes can perceive is only a small fraction of all the light that surrounds us. The Edge of Colour is a project that researches the limits of our visual perception.

The visual filter through which we see the world, for example, determines that we perceive plants as static, decorative objects. However, beyond the human visual spectrum plants are illuminated, active organisms, that react directly to their environment. The photo print on the wall shows the fluorescence plants radiate under stressful conditions, a phenomenon that is not visible to the human eye.

The edges of this visual spectrum vary from person to person. The viewing objects you see in the presentation space are experiments to determine our differences in perception. The results are used to create a work within this specific wavelength, so that each visitor has a different experience. The artist's ultimate goal is to create a project where the eyes of the viewer determine the end result of the work."

More about Lisa van Casand
Lisa van Casand (1990) graduated from The Royal Academy of Art The Hague in 2017, specializing in documentary photography. She creates semi-scientific research documents about enigmatic phenomena that challenge us to reflect on the essence of truth.
