‘It represents a collective form, a disordered, proliferating and endlessly renewed conglomeration'
- Nicolas Bourriaud, Post Production, 2002

For my presentation at Stroom Den Haag, I will bring a mini flea market into the space that comprises mostly small paintings, works on paper and some miscellaneous pieces, some of which were recently exhibited in my last show at EXO in Den Haag. The work is titled Market structures and this will be its first incarnation. The entry space at Stroom has a number of functions that typify independent art spaces, there is a bookshop with an adjacent browsing area with coffee, tables and chairs along with an information desk. Within this structure is a temporary display area where artists are invited to do something. My aim then with Market structures is to create a more fluid dialogue with these functional aspects of Stroom's entrance by encouraging people to ‘rummage' through my work.

After my last show was taken down, works were stored and packed ready for transport to my studio. A lot of the smaller paintings were put into cardboard boxes and once they arrived at my studio they were put down on the floor in a ‘semi organised' collective fashion. After about a week, I thought I should properly store them away, but I didn't. They suggested a whole new other form, that of the ‘flea market'. Traditionally, artworks are not allowed to be touched let alone handled in museums and I'm sure everybody has at some point secretly touched a painting or sculpture. At Stroom people will be able to do exactly this. One of my fondest memories was when I was a teenager and had a weekly habit of frequenting independent record shops, the kind that made you feel like you were discovering new bands that the mainstream would never touch. Flicking through boxes of albums, e.ps and 7" singles was always very exciting for me. Before I knew that one could be an artist, I wanted to be a record cover designer. The ‘market structure' work in some ways represents the kind of artist I am, a single author with multiple authors inside him.
