Ondertussen: Ingrid Mol, Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk and Tejo Philips

May 23 thru July 5, 2009
Location: Hogewal 1-9

The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (Meanwhile).

The FuLe International Ceramic Art Museum (Flicam) in Fuping (China) was founded in 2004. Ever since, the museum ialso features a number of pavilions showing ceramic art from several countries. At the moment the following pavilions have been realized: France, Scandinavia, Australia, USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Belgium. Artists from these countries are invited by Flicam to create new work in their very well equipped ceramics factory next to the museum. The works are shown in the pavilion of the country in question. In 2008 eight artists from The Netherlands were invited to work in China. Three of them are artists from The Hague.

Ingrid Mol created the work ‘The night after the leader visits the artist'. An installation in a theatrical setting, showing an artist at work in his studio, surrounded by unfinished sculptures.

Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk created the work ‘The mouse wakes up [Lao Shu]'. It shows a huge mouse on a bed surrounded by pillows. The setting has a fairytale like atmosphere, but something might be brewing.

Tejo Philips created a relief on a wall showing a comical fantasy figure in a dance pose. The work was made in celadon, a famous brand of Chinese ceramics with green-blue glazing.

For their work period at Flicam the artists received a SPOT-exhibition grant.

The other participants from Holland were: Hans van Bentem, Remco Pothuma, Adriaan Rees, Anton Reijnders en Nick Renshaw.
