Max Lennarts (Bergen op Zoom, 1988) and Menno de Bruijn (Amersfoort, 1992) graduated from the Royal Academy of Art The Hague (KABK) in  2015. Together they form the design studio Lennarts & de Bruijn. They work on commission, mainly in the cultural sector, and also make autonomous work that often responds to social themes and behaviour. Lennarts' graduation project, for example, focused on the increasing narcissist tendencies of mankind (I Have a Purpose) and De Bruijn's graduation project zoomed in on "everything but football"; with football holding up a mirror to society (Money, Politics and Bananas).

With Pro or Anti Lennarts & de Bruijn express their growing irritation (one they hope is shared by many others) about the fact that a nuanced opinion seems to get lost in the discussion of current topics like the elections, the refugee crisis, terrorist attacks and the discussion about 'Black Pete'. At Stroom they present a wall filled with "ultimate choices" that are entirely devoid of context. When you open a (digital) newspaper these days or when you scroll through your Facebook timeline it seems like this is the only thing left or at least the only thing that gets attention. You either vote Yes or No. You are either Left wing or you are Right wing. You are either Pro or Anti. In letting the audience make up his or her own mind without any context the artists intend to create a certain awareness and to achieve a result entirely devoid of any meaning or context.
