Artist statement: Evelien Gransjean (Invest)

Imagine, you don't have a past, haven't developed habits or pre-consumptions and are unaware of an apparent idea of existing culture. My aim is to offer people the chance of exploration, by viewing the world as a blank canvas. The idea of people being explorers in time, fascinates me. In a time when everything seems to revolve around the two-dimensional digital space/place, and in a world of continuous consumption, I feel strained and over-stimulated. My work consists of installations, objects and photographic works. I see my work as a psychological space parallel to all visible, created by a longing for shapes of tranquillity and balance. The materials are use are often ordinary and found objects. These objects have a certain character that fits the image I have for new work(s). I combine these objects with materials such as (broken) glass, balloons, Tipp-Ex, duct-tape, concrete, water and light. By combining these materials with personal ideas, I want to create images that move people universally.
