Oproep inschrijving atelierbezoek Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk op 27 en 28 september 2018
Op donderdag 27 en vrijdag 28 september 2018 zal Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk -artistiek directeur van POPPOSITIONS in Brussel en oprichter van The Office for Curating in Rotterdam - een aantal atelierbezoeken afleggen bij kunstenaars in Den Haag.
Onderstaand een korte omschrijving van de interessegebieden van de curator:
"In my work I am interested in artistic practices that are research-based and concept-driven, that address unstable ecologies and living climates, and relate to world-making questions such as: How does the world breathe now? How can we as humans enact and envision the possibilities of life in capitalist ruins? I am interested in working with artists on exhibitions and projects, combining science and fiction, to set new horizons for co-habitation, collective adaptation and survival, emphasizing entanglements between natures and cultures, as well as the fluidity of identities and digital infrastructures, seeking to establish new patchworks of relations between humans and non-humans. At a formal and aesthetic level I have a preference for works and practices that merge and combine research data, findings and accounts with poetry, literature and fiction."

Uit de lijst zal de curator een keuze maken op basis waarvan het bezoekprogramma zal worden samengesteld.
Beknopte biografie van de curator
Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (1988, NL) works as a curator and writer for The Office for Curating in Rotterdam, and is currently active as Artistic Director of POPPOSITIONS in Brussels. Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk holds a BA in Art History and Visual Culture from the University of Utrecht, and an MA in Curating from the London Metropolitan University, delivered in conjunction with the Whitechapel Gallery. Central to Lekkerkerk's work are social and political discourses revolving around daily living and working practices, cultural norms, and ideologies. He particularly focuses on debates concerning the Anthropocene, ecology and climate, post-humanism, and the increasing entanglement between nature and culture. Lekkerkerk recently published The Standard Book of Noun-Verb Exhibition Grammar (Onomatopee, 2018), a publication regarding the exhibition as an ecological assemblage. In 2012 he received the inaugural Demergon Curatorial Award, and in 2014 he was the beneficiary of the Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition.
Recent projects and exhibitions organized by The Office for Curating are the seventh edition of POPPOSITIONS entitled In Watermelon Sugar (2018) at the former Atelier Coppens, Brussels; Open Air (2018) for Art Rotterdam; the group exhibition Psychosculptural Aesthetics (2017) at Rianne Groen, Rotterdam; the solo exhibition Elements of Peaceful Engagement (2017) with Marlena Kudlicka at Zak|Branicka, Berlin; the duo exhibition Homestead of Dilution (2017) with Domenico Mangano and Marieke van Rooy at Nomas, Rome; the sixth edition of POPPOSITIONS entitled Don't Agonize, Organize! (2017) at ING Art Center, Brussels.

Stroom nodigt sinds 2006 regelmatig curatoren, kunstenaars en critici uit binnen- en buitenland uit om atelierbezoeken af te leggen bij Haagse kunstenaars. Het atelierbezoek biedt de kunstenaar de gelegenheid om zich met zijn/ haar werk te presenteren. Het vormt een gelegenheid tot opbouwende kritische reflectie op het werk in een gedachtenwisseling met een gekwalificeerde expert. En in het verlengde hiervan wordt natuurlijk de bekendheid met het werk gestimuleerd.
