André van de Wijdeven, I love JR, 2008

Center of The Hague: Spui - Grote Markstraat - Kalvermarkt

Part of The Sculpture Gallery

Candy pink. That is the colour André van de Wijdeven (1964) painted his sculpture when it came from the foundry. As if the gun has been covered in a thick layer of sugar, shiny and sweet. The top of the barrel of the gun forms the letters I Love JR. The text is a reference to the leading character from the 1980s American soap series Dallas. Because JR was the bad guy, it was not possible to love him. Hence the contrast in shape and colour.
