The project 'After Neurath' takes as its starting point the life and work of Otto Neurath, who lived and worked in The Hague between 1934 and 1940.
Otto Neurath (1882-1945) was a philosopher of science, a political economist, one of the leading figures of the Vienna Circle and also a leading light in the Unity of Science movement. These varied concerns came together in a system that by the 1930s was called ISOTYPE (International System Of Typographic Picture Education), a system of representing quantitative information via easily interpretable icons (the precursor of the pictogram which are seen everywhere from airports to the high street).
