Zefir7 is het maandelijks Ontwerperscafé bij Stroom Den Haag i.s.m. BNO Kring Den Haag. Deze keer staat de avond in het teken van 'letters', met speciale gast Ramiro Espinoza, die o.a. zal spreken over de typische krulletters op de ramen van Amsterdamse bruine cafe's.

What are the origins of the exuberant swash letters that can be found on the windows of many of the most traditional bars of Amsterdam? Who painted them? Was it a collective creation or the work of a gifted letter painter? How old is the style?

For almost a decade Ramiro Espinoza thoroughly researched this lettering style and together with Rob Becker, documented every surviving example in Amsterdam, Maastrich and Ghent in an effort to answer these questions and raise awareness about the importance of this little known chapter of the Dutch graphical tradition.

Espinoza will give a sneak preview of his book (to be published in April) and will discuss with the audience aspects of his survey, as well as some recent type design projects.
