De tentoonstelling Nishiko: Repairing Earthquake Project over de gevolgen van de tsunami in Japan in 2011, wordt begeleid door het Stroom School programma Rising Waters over zeespiegelstijging.
Deze avond is er een lezing en presentatie van Peter
Fend (USA), medeoprichter en lid van het activistisch
kunstenaarscollectief Ocean Earth Development Corporation. Hij zal zijn visie uiteen zetten over de toekomst van Nederland in het licht van de ecologische ramp die de wereld bedreigt.
Richard Prince noemde Peter Fend ooit "de Lawrence of Arabia van de kunstwereld". In 2001 beschreef The New York Times zijn werk als volgt: "a blend of conceptual
art, activism and entrepreneurship, tackling environmental
problems through an application of art-as-design."
Peter Fend has studied the topography and
oceanography of nearly every part of the world, organizing terrain
according to water systems rather than geopolitical boundaries. He
believes that most historical patterns of migration, ideology,
sovereignty, militarization and industry are determined by and organized
around saltwater basins. Fend proposes working with the ocean and its
inhabitants in a non-invasive way to harvest energy for creating
self-reliant and ecologically sustainable economies.
