Zefir7 is monthly Designers Café at Stroom Den Haag i.c.w. BNO Kring Den Haag. This time with Dennis de Bel.

Encounter the lucid acumen of a relentless de-/reconstructor of smart devices. Some quotes from his site made us particularly curious:

"The iterative ‘innovation' cycle of major coorporations caps real innovation and is artificially kept at a steady (slow) pace to maximise profit on a certain platform".

According to Dennis de Bel S.M.S. stands for: Smoke Messaging Service; "takes your device to the next level. Based on millennia of experience this iPhone hardware addon offers you safe, long distance, visual communication for free!"

[...] real speculative wireless communication devices [...]

"Coming back to my lofiPhone, one could say its reverse innovation (like reverse engineering) to find out what innovation really means today."

Dennis de Bel (1984) graduated in June 2007 as an Interactive Media designer at the Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam. In June 2009, he completed the Master Media Design and Communication at the Piet Zwart Institute, also in Rotterdam. Currently, he is teaching at the Willem de Kooning Academy, and creating his own works under the Dilly Dally Foundry label. His work is inspired by alternative production methods with a hint of everyday life.
